Train Smart: A Framework for Safer, More Effective Fire Service Training
Battalion Chief Danny Arroyo will be presenting this course for the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety (NJ DFS) and Kean Fire Safety at the Mercer County Fire Academy on October 7th.
Realistic, aggressive training begins with clear objectives, deliberate planning, and effective safety controls. This course introduces a practical framework for planning, delivering, and evaluating fire service training that strengthens operational readiness while managing risk.
Participants will examine how to develop meaningful training evolutions, identify hazards, define instructor responsibilities, apply safety controls, and align training with applicable standards. The program emphasizes instructor accountability and building a culture where every member has a voice in identifying concerns and improving training.
Designed for fire instructors, training officers, company officers, and chief officers, this course reinforces that effective training is both a firefighter safety function and a leadership responsibility. Attendees will gain practical strategies to make training purposeful, controlled, and relevant to the demands of the fireground.
