The Hillsborough Fire Department has contracted Fire Training & Consultants, LLC to deliver Fire Behavior and Seek FirePro 300 Training, featuring a live-fire demonstration using the Palmer Dollhouse prop.
This program is designed to strengthen firefighters’ understanding of modern fire behavior, hostile fire events, and the practical application of the Seek FirePro 300 thermal imaging camera during fireground operations. Students will examine fire development, heat transfer, smoke movement, flow paths, ventilation impacts, and the rapidly changing conditions firefighters may encounter during interior structural firefighting.
The thermal imaging portion of the program will focus specifically on the features and operational capabilities of the Seek FirePro 300. Members will learn how to properly interpret thermal images, recognize heat signatures and convection currents, understand temperature colorization, and avoid common misinterpretations of thermal data.
Students will also review how the Seek FirePro 300 can support exterior size-up, fire attack, search operations, overhaul, firefighter accountability, and overall situational awareness.
The program will conclude with a live-fire Palmer Dollhouse demonstration, allowing students to observe fire growth, smoke movement, flow-path development, ventilation effects, and water application in a controlled environment. Thermal imaging cameras will be incorporated throughout the demonstration to connect classroom concepts with real-world fire behavior.
Through classroom instruction, guided discussion, thermal imaging exercises, and live-fire observation, members will gain a stronger understanding of how fire dynamics and thermal imaging work together to support safer, more informed, and more effective fireground decision-making.
