Understanding Fire Dynamics: Ensuring Safety During Hostile Fire Events

Battalion Chief Danny Arroyo will be presenting this course for the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety (NJ DFS) and Kean Fire Safety at the Atlantic County Fire Academy on October 6th.

Understanding how fires develop, spread, and react to changing conditions is essential to effective fireground operations. This course examines the science behind combustion, fire behavior, and extinguishment, connecting these concepts to the challenges firefighters face during hostile fire events.

Through practical case studies and discussion, participants will explore how to recognize hazardous conditions, assess risk, and make informed tactical decisions. The program emphasizes applying fire dynamics knowledge to anticipate changes, adapt operations, and reduce firefighter exposure to dangerous conditions.

Designed for firefighters, fire officers, and instructors, this training strengthens situational awareness and connects fire science with practical fireground decision-making. Participants will gain a better understanding of hostile fire events and how their decisions can influence operational effectiveness and firefighter safety.
