Ashes to Answers: The Fire Department’s Investigative Impact
Captain Ryan Dullea of the Westfield Fire Department will be presenting this course for the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety (NJ DFS) and Kean Fire Safety at the Ocean County Fire Academy on November 10th.
Fire department actions play a critical role in supporting an effective fire investigation. This course explores the principles, practices, and responsibilities involved in determining the origin and cause of fires, emphasizing how fire service personnel contribute to the investigative process.
Participants will examine fire behavior, fire dynamics, investigative techniques, evidence preservation, legal considerations, and interagency coordination. The program connects these topics to the importance of protecting evidence, communicating observations, and supporting investigators throughout an incident.
Designed for fire service personnel, law enforcement, and related professionals, this training strengthens awareness of investigative responsibilities and the coordination needed to help turn fire scene findings into answers.
